Dune Messiah: The inspiration for the blockbuster film (The Dune Sequence Book 2)
Essential reading to maintain the development of the whole series.

Dune
A very well written book, the action is abit drawn out and may get too political at some times, definite knowledge of the dune world is needed so do not read without reading the first novel.

Portentous clap trap
How this pedestrian mumbo jumbo ever gained popularity is beyond me.

Future history, the "poster" book of Space Opera, or more like Space Period pieces.
A classic, what more can I say?

Horrible
Horrible, reads like it was written by another author.

Good, but not as revealingly visionary as its predecessor DUNE.
I read DUNE 30 odd years ago and re-read it a few weeks back.

Another good Frank Herbert book
This book helps to fill in the gap between the twins birth & the next step in the story so you read on.

Alright I guess
Dune Messiah is an alright read - not nearly as good as Dune.

Good as a 4th book to the first Dune, poor as a standalone
As others have said it is good as a 4th book to the first Dune, it tells the more realistic story of what happens to Paul and his kingdom a decade after the end of the first book.
