The book consists of chapters detailing the history of several middle eastern countries and is an excellent synopsis. It is not in depth and thorough. It is a good place to start reading about the area.

This book is a good summary of middle east after ottoman empire without getting into too much detail and too much Analysis of the effect of the west in current state of the middle east.
I was excpecting a better discussion on the interventations, the past and the future on the state of the affairs in middle east and psycology of the people, where is that hate is coming from? Why we have el qaide? All the effects of oil, money, religion, colonialism on this luck and so unlucky place on earth.
