Even after reading, for example, "Hitler's dark charisma" by Laurence Rees, which is quite good, I had difficulties understanding fully the rise of Hitler to power and his grip on the German people.

Not only has Ian Kershaw managed to tell this great tyrant's story impassionately and accurately, but he has managed to do it without it ever getting heavy or hard to read.
